First Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshitsky said that the use of contact-distance electric shocks is a matter of preserving the life and health of citizens and law enforcement officers. He said this on the live broadcast of the program “Freedom of Speech”.
“No one spoke about the use of an electric shock device simply for an administrative violation, the law we proposed clearly stated - the use of such a special device only in case of a threat to the life and health of a law enforcement officer. The question was not about expanding powers, but about updating those grounds that would allow police to use Taser contact and remote taser stun guns. We are talking here, first of all, about safety, minor injuries and about protection,” said Alexey Beloshitsky.

“Electric shock absorbers have proven their effectiveness and passed international studies, which prove that 65% of the use of the device would cause less injury than other special tools - rubber batons, gas cylinders. In addition, there are contradictions that electric shocks pose a threat to human health. But research statistics say that the possibility of a fatality is 6.5 cases per million uses,” he added.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko stated that every fact of the use of tasers will be checked both by the police leadership and the prosecutor, so the rights of citizens from the illegal use of this special tool will be protected by the Law.
