Police honored the memory of the defenders of Ukraine who died in the downed helicopter near Slavyansk
May 29 - the seventh anniversary of the tragedy that took the lives of 12 people. In 2014, armed formations of the Russian Federation fired on a National Guard helicopter in Donetsk region, which exploded. Today, at the site of the fall of “Board 16", a memorial event was held in honor of the dead guards and law enforcement officers, among whom was General Serhiy Kulchitsky.
Acting Commander of the United Forces Viktor Hanushchak, Advisor to the Head of the National Police Vasily Vikonsky, Head of the National Police Vasyl Vikonsky, Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Donetsk Oblast Mykola Semenyshyn, Head of Donetsk Military-Civil Administration gathered near the memorial sign installed at the place of the death of the fighters. Pavlo Kirilenko, representatives of the National Guard command, relatives and friends of the dead, local residents.
In the Mi-8 helicopter were six servicemen of the National Guard and six employees of the special purpose militia company of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, who were returning home after a rotation in the ATO zone. They died as heroes, defending the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. Among the law enforcement officers were both young guys and special agents with experience in peacekeeping missions, skills of extreme survival.
The defenders were posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” of the 1st degree, and Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star.
Police officers took part in prayer for the dead brothers. Attendees honored the fighters' memory with a minute of silence for and laid flowers at the memorial in their honor. Military aviators paid tribute to the brothers by flying over the memorial.
The chief of police of the Donetsk region Nikolai Semenishin thanked his parents for raising loyal patriots.
“Today we gathered in a sacred place to honor the bright memory of the faithful sons of the Ukrainian people. The police of Donetsk region remember and will continue their case, because we are on our land and are able to provide a worthy rebuff to the aggressor. Also today we honor all brothers who are already living legends of the Russian-Ukrainian war,” said Mykola Semenyshyn.
