In 2020, 3,124 people died from emergencies, of which 1728 from fires. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko during the forum “Ukraine 30. Security of the country.”

“Many fires occur because people do not adhere to elementary fire safety standards, do not monitor their own heating equipment in private buildings, and entrepreneurs do not improve fire safety conditions at economic facilities,” Anton Gerashchenko noted.

He recalled the tragic cases in Odessa, when 9 people were burned alive in the Tokyo Star hotel, and 16 in the college. “Finally, the SNS received a new law on increasing fines for not allowing inspectors to inspect property.
Previously, the fine was from 85 to 135 hryvnias, now — up to 34 thousand hryvnias,” the deputy minister said.

Anton Gerashchenko also said that a proposal is currently being developed for the law to establish a norm for deducting from budget funds the amount for improving fire safety in public institutions.

According to the Deputy Minister, in recent years, the state of the material and technical base of the State Emergency Service has changed for the better. In addition, a pilot project of aeromedical evacuation in the Lviv region was launched, which will cover the whole of Ukraine in two years.

In turn, the head of the State Emergency Service Nikolai Chechotkin noted that the department was involved in the digitalization of state services for business entities through a single portal “Diia”.

“In particular, electronic administration of licensing services in the field of fire safety, submission of electronic declarations by business entities, transparency and openness of inspections through an automated system of state supervision have been introduced. Now every entrepreneur has free access to information about scheduled inspections and their results,” he said.
