National police ensured public safety during Independence Day events - Igor Klymenko
In total, almost 400 mass events were held in the state, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine. In Kiev alone, about 100 thousand citizens took part in the festive events.
The main task of law enforcement officers was to ensure the safety of citizens who participated in the events. Dialogue police units, dog handlers, and explosives technicians were involved to protect public order. In addition, law enforcement officers monitored the observance of traffic rules on the roads of settlements.
“The largest events on the occasion of Independence Day took place in Kyiv. About 100 thousand people took part in them. There were also declared marches of defenders and patriots of Ukraine with the participation of more than 10 thousand people. The safety of citizens was ensured by about 10 thousand law enforcement officers — these are employees of the National Police, the State Emergency Service, soldiers of the National Guard,” said the Head of the National Police Igor Klymenko.
During the mass events in the capital, several violations of public order were recorded, to which the police promptly responded.
In particular, in the capital:
- In the center of the capital, the people's deputy and fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was poured with green paint. The intruder has now been identified. In the near future, legal qualification for his actions will be provided.
- on Khreshchatyk, the guy doused himself with an unknown substance and set himself on fire. The police immediately responded and together with passers-by extinguished the flames and handed the 25-year-old citizen to the doctors, at the moment his life is not in danger.
- Law enforcement officers in a matter of minutes detained a man who poured paint on a flagpole near the building of the Moscow State Administration. For his actions, he faces up to five years of restriction of liberty.
