Water police started working in Kharkiv region
Two police crews will patrol the Pechenizha Reservoir daily and monitor law enforcement on the water.
The new unit was presented on August 26 by the acting head of the GUNP in the Kharkiv region Serhiy Chyzh and his deputy Sergey Khimich.
A water patrol of 10 police officers is created to prevent crime and ensure the protection of public order both in water bodies and on the coastal strip, so that vacationers feel safe.
The boat “UMS” with a Suzuki engine and the corresponding technical equipment for the unit was singled out by the Ministry of the Interior.
Serhiy Chyzh said that the police officers who are part of the water patrol have undergone special training in the city of Dnipro.
The main task of the water police is police care, verification of relevant documents, vessels and drivers operating them, as well as detection of poachers and illegal logging of the forest, - emphasized the acting head of the regional police chief.
The head of the Chuguev district police department Oleg Tkachenko said that offenses related to poaching in this area are not uncommon.
- Pechenizha reservoir is very large and stretches from Staryi Saltov up to the village of Pechenegi. Thanks to the technical capabilities of the service craft, the patrol can reach both in one and the other direction in a few minutes to catch or catch the offender.
According to the Starosaltovsky village head Eduard Konovalov, the newly created police service is very necessary, including to monitor the safety of vacationers, because in the summer period almost 70-80 thousand people come here.
Patrolling on the water has its own specifics, - said Denis Tkachenko, deputy head of the water police sector of the Chuguev Regional Police Department. - Often, while riding on boats, drivers violate the rules of behavior on water bodies - they accelerate dangerously, and as a result, passengers fall out floatplanes. Therefore, we detect such violations, and make sure that the rest of citizens is as safe as possible.
In the future, it is planned to create additional water patrols on the territory of the entire Kharkiv region, where there are large water bodies
