In Poltava region, the police exposed a drug group and seized drugs worth more than 3 million hryvnias
The criminal group engaged in the manufacture and sale of drugs included four residents of the region, including a married couple. The accomplices sold prohibited substances through bookmarks using Internet messengers. For settlements with customers, payment web services were used.
The drug business was stopped by employees of the investigative department of the police of the region together with the regional department of strategic investigations, under the procedural guidance of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, with the involvement of special officers of the KORD.
Artem Rodygin, deputy chief of police of Poltava region, said: “The pre-trial investigation established that accomplices organized a drug laboratory for the production of heavy drugs. Among them: tramadol, amphetamine, methamphetamine and cannabis. During 11 authorized searches at the addresses of residence and in the vehicles of the defendants, the police seized about 7 kilograms of drugs, mobile phones, bank cards, various weapons and about 200 thousand hryvnias in cash. According to preliminary estimates, the value of the seized drugs is more than 3 million hryvnias.
One of the men was detained under the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Two defendants (spouses) have already been notified of suspicion of committing drug crimes and the issue of the fourth accomplice is being resolved. At the same time, documents are being prepared for the choice of all four precautionary measures”.
Investigators carry out a pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — illegal manufacture, storage, transportation or shipment for the purpose of sale, as well as illegal sale of narcotic drugs committed by an organized group, as well as if the subject of such actions were narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues in particularly large quantities. As part of criminal proceedings, examinations are appointed, investigative actions are ongoing.
If the court finds members of a criminal group guilty of drug crimes, they face up to twelve years in prison with confiscation of property.
