In order to improve skills and acquire persistent skills in sniping, a special training course for snipers (UAR-10) was started at the Training and Combat Center for Special Actions of the International Center of NGU in Kyiv region. Instructors of the Joint Operational and Tactical Group of the Armed Forces of Canada in Ukraine (Operation “UNIFIER”) are involved in the course.

According to Colonel Volodymyr Hrabchak, head of the Department of International Cooperation of the National Guard State University of Ukraine, the training of snipers of the National Guard is the next stage in the development of cooperation with the operation “UNIFIER”.

“Canadian colleagues assisted in training the instructors of the Training and Combat Center to conduct a special sniper training course (UAR-10) and in creating a pilot project of the training program. It is based on NATO standards, experience in training snipers of the Canadian Armed Forces and participation in combat operations during the Joint Forces operation in eastern Ukraine,” he said.

Colonel Volodymyr Hrabchak noted that cooperation with Operation “UNIFIER” has practical results and positive dynamics regarding the implementation of NATO standards in the National Guard training system.

During the special training course, snipers will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in sniping, observation and selection and arrangement of a sniper position, covert movement and camouflage, military topography, as well as improve practical skills in conducting fire for various purposes and its adjustment.

“Theoretical knowledge will be integrated with practical activities. At the range, snipers will detect and conduct surveillance of targets, determine distance, direction and wind speed, navigate terrain without topographic instruments, covertly move to the sniper position and disguise themselves according to environmental conditions, and most importantly conduct high-precision shooting at long distances”, — said Colonel Mykola Sherstyuk, the head of the department of coordination of training snipers of the State University of NGU before the start of classes.

At each stage of preparation, the participants of the course, after mastering the theory and practice, will pass the test standards, the implementation of which will have only a few attempts. The result of the preparation will be the implementation of a complex tactical task.

During the basic training course “UNIFIER” Canadian instructors will not only provide advisory assistance on compliance with the qualification standards, but also conduct field lessons on their own.

This course will be the basis for the creation of a basic sniper training curriculum that meets NATO standards.

After drawing up standards and completing the final comprehensive sniper task with combat shooting, cadets will receive certificates and certificates of passing a special sniper training course.
