In Kyiv region, police conducted an authorized search in an underground animal shelter

Residents of one of the high-rise buildings in the city of Vasilkov told the police that in one of the neighboring apartments there are a large number of animals. Dogs and cats are kept in unsanitary conditions and cause significant inconvenience to the inhabitants of the house.

On September 3, the police of the Kiev region conducted an authorized search there. It was established that a 46-year-old resident of Vasilkova kept dozens of dogs and cats in her apartment for a long time without proper conditions. It is also possible that she took some of the animals for maintenance for monetary reward.

As of 14:00 one of the rooms has already been examined and 41 dogs and 28 cats have been removed. Searches continue. Law enforcers with the participation of employees of the Department of Animal Protection and Treatment of Animals of KP UzhKG “Irpin” removed some of the animals and sent them to the veterinary hospital to establish the state of health. According to preliminary data, a total of 50 animals were in the apartment. The owner of the apartment was taken to the police department.

Currently, the police have opened Criminal Proceedings under Part 3 of Article 299 (Cruelty to Animals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a period of five to eight years with the confiscation of the animal.
