On the basis of the Training and Combat Center for the preparation of units for special actions of the International Center of the National Guard, the basic course of training of the National Guard intelligence officer continues. Representatives of the Joint Operational and Tactical Group of the Armed Forces of Canada in Ukraine (Operation UNIFIER) last week trained intelligence officers to cope with a water obstacle and practice tactical actions in the water according to NATO standards.

Before starting the training in the aquatic environment, the wetland scouts made a march to one of the lakes, where the exercise took place. At this time, Canadian instructors showed what tactical actions the scout performs when approaching a water obstacle and surveying the terrain.

“In the past classes, my cadets and I have become accustomed to each other and now our actions are well synchronized. They have already shown a high level of training and knowledge acquisition, so I did not worry when they entered the water,” said one of the instructors from the Canadian side.

According to him, water training is the basis for every scout, because each of them must keep well on the water, because during the tasks he has to carry a lot of heavy equipment. Using the materials at hand, the cadets crossed the water barrier, and then repeated their actions already using a motor boat and oars.

“All cadets showed a high level of task performance and even those who were unsure of themselves. There is a lot of progress, because they already feel confident in the water with their equipment and skillfully perform tactical actions,” added the Canadian instructor.

The cadets also practiced the turning of the boat and its sinking, actions that they must perform according to NATO standards. It took longer to work out this case, but the cadets managed to return the boat to its normal position much faster.

“For my part, I want to say that these are really very important lessons for us and the intelligence of the National Guard as a whole. We now have the knowledge and skills base as well as the experience of Canadian instructors. We only have to improve our skills in practice. Everyone has a different level of possession of their body in the water and we still need to learn to do all the actions at the same time,” said one of the cadets.

After the practice of action on the water, the UNIFIER instructors showed and trained the cadets on tactical movement as part of the combat compartments during the landing, as well as repeated all important points during the preparation for entering the water, including the control of sectors and the order of movement and the tasks of each scout.

Over time, the reconnaissance cadets will have an autonomous field trip, where they will learn to perform special tasks, which will be the result of their training.
