The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine strengthens cooperation with Estonia in the field of border protection — Mary Akopian
Today, December 13, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopian held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Kaymo Kuusko, Advisor to the President of Estonia on Security Liis Moore and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Estonia Margus Göring.
The parties discussed the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border and ways of cooperation in case of further escalation of the situation. The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine informed about the measures taken by the Ministry to strengthen the borders.
“The issue of border security is a priority for both the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the President of Ukraine. We highly value the political partnership with the Republic of Estonia and hope that the cooperation that has taken place between the two countries over the years will only improve. We are grateful to the Estonian partners for their continued and dedicated support aimed at developing the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, its reform and strengthening,” said Mary Akopian.
Estonian partners offered their support in strengthening the security of Ukraine's borders. The parties also agreed to intensify cooperation between the Ministries, especially in the field of cybersecurity and strategic communications.
“It is planned that the National Police of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine together with representatives of local administrations, the SBU and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will participate in intersectoral crisis exercises related to national resilience in the context of information security, crisis and strategic communication,” the deputy minister said.
The events will be held in 8 cities of Ukraine: Mariupol, Sumy, Kherson, Nikolaev, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odessa and Zaporizhzhia. The acquired experience will further promote effective interaction between the authorities, the power bloc, public activists, the media and public opinion leaders.
In addition, in January next year, it is planned to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the International Center for Defense and Security of Estonia (ICDS) within the framework of the Estonian-Ukrainian program “Resilient Ukraine”.
During the meeting, they separately focused on cooperation in developing the direction of strategic communications. In particular, the partners confirmed their readiness to send to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine an expert on strategic communications of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Estonia for training and consultations.
