The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its work to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration process - Mary Akopian

Today, December 24, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopian took part in the final meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishina.

During the event, we considered the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Association Agreement, the support of priority European integration bills and highlighted the main achievements in 2021, namely:

• Accession of Ukraine to the Cooperation Group on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking — POMPIDU.

• Establishing a cyber dialogue between Ukraine and the EU.

• Positive 4th report of the European Commission on the state of compliance with the criteria for visa-free regime.

• High level of implementation of the readmission agreement with the EU.

• Chairmanship of the EU Danube Strategy and full participation in the implementation of its priorities.

• Obtaining the status of NPU observer in the International Organization for Cooperation of Law Enforcement Agencies on Water — Aquapol.

• Strengthening cooperation with Europol through the normalization of the communication officer referral and the ratification of the Memorandum on Information Protection.

• Expanded participation of our law enforcement officers in EU training programs within the framework of the implementation of the CEPOL agreement.

• Confirmation of readiness to join the European Migration Network.

• Strengthening the dialogue with the EU in the border and migration sphere.

• Promoting the common position of the Associated Trio in order to strengthen cooperation in the field of security.

In addition, the meeting discussed the revision of the Association Agreement and the formation of an assessment of the achievement of the objectives, as well as the results of the agreement with the EU Agency for the Training of Law Enforcement Officers (CEPOL) and the implementation of the joint project “Police and Community Interaction” with the ECSC. This project significantly strengthened the capabilities of the Donetsk police due to the opening of a regional mission representative office in Mariupol.

We noted the intensification of cooperation with Europol. In the context of the implementation of the Action Plan, a number of important laws and strategic documents have been adopted this year. We noted progress in harmonizing Ukrainian legislation with the norms of EU law.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has developed 7 government acts and 6 draft laws. The adopted acts will contribute to the implementation of the Integrated Border Management Strategy, create the basis for issuing a single European standard driver's license, improve the driver training system, etc. We continue to work on strengthening the capacity in the fight against organized crime,” the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed.

Mary Akopian also said that active preparations have begun for the meeting of the Association Council in 2022, preliminary expectations for the next Summit have been formed.

“I thank my colleagues and partners for contributing to our initiatives in the political arena. A worthy end to the year! There is a lot of work ahead. Strength and inspiration to us,” the deputy minister stressed.
