Nikolaev law enforcement officers detained a group of drug dealers for distributing methadone
Three residents of the city of Kherson, natives of the city of Lysychansk in the Luhansk region, have established contactless drug sales in the territory of the two regions through “bookmarks”. Almost 2.5 kg of methadone and 500 ml of opium worth more than 3.5 million hryvnias were seized from the premises of the defendants.
On May 15, employees of the Department for Combating Narcotics Crime in the Nikolaev area of the DBN NPU and the detective investigators of the investigative department, the operatives of the UCR with the force support of special officers and under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office detained the participants of the criminal group of 24, 25 and 26 years.
The attackers distributed narcotic substances and potent drugs through a cross-platform messenger by placing “bookmarks” on the territory of Nikolaev and Kherson. One of the participants in the group had more than 30 “bookmarks” with drugs. Conspiring their criminal activities, the defendants used a payment system of electronic wallets, the accounts of which were replenished by customers, in the future the funds were withdrawn to bank cards.
According to the head of the Department for Combating Drug Crime in the Nikolaev area of DBN NPU Valery Urunov, simultaneously searches were carried out at the places of residence of offenders in three regions, Nikolaev, Kherson and Kyiv. During the searches, the police seized almost 2.5 kg of the drug, including 49 “bookmarks”, methadone and 500 ml of acetylated opium for a total amount of more than 3.5 million UAH. Bank cards, “draft” records, scratch cards, starter packs of various mobile operators, cash, mobile phones and laptops have also been removed. The seized law enforcement officers were sent for examination.
Three defendants were detained under the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators with the procedural support of the regional prosecutor's office handed them a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, shipment or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues” and part 3 of Art. 321 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, transportation, shipment, storage for the purpose of sale or sale of poisonous or potent substances or poisonous or potent drugs”. Other members of the group are also identified and the evidence base of their involvement in the sale of drugs is collected. The sanctions of the articles provide for up to ten years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The issue of choosing preventive measures for detainees is being resolved. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
