Latvia transfers humanitarian cargo for frontline cities in Luhansk region
On August 26, a transfer of humanitarian aid weighing 8 tons took place in Stanytsya Luhanska. It was formed on the initiative of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Latvia and gathered by the forces of sponsors and volunteer organizations of European countries for residents of the frontline settlements of Luhansk region. Delivery of cargo is traditionally provided by the National Guard of Ukraine.
Within the walls of the Luhansk Regional State Administration there was a working meeting of a foreign delegation with the Chairman of the Luhansk Regional State Administration, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar, Head of the Military-Civil Administration, representatives of the United Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine.
Participants discussed the procedure for the transfer of humanitarian aid and further areas of cooperation within the framework of the program of civil-military cooperation and interaction between the military clergy services of Ukraine and Latvia. Also, a briefing for media representatives was held within the event. Assistance in the unloading of humanitarian aid was provided by servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“For the sixth year in a row, the National Guard has been delivering cargo on its own transport. This cargo is going to Stanytsia Lugansk. The main part of the assistance is intended for the most vulnerable strata of the population. We are always happy to cooperate with our Latvian colleagues and Ukrainian volunteers,” said Colonel Viktor Holumbivskyi, head of the information support department of NGU.
The leadership of the National Guard of Ukraine honored Natalya Zhurbenko, the head of the NGO “Leadership of Women in Eastern Ukraine”, with a memorable gift for many years of cooperation and assistance in directing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population. The volunteer has been coordinating the distribution and delivery of humanitarian aid to children and families in Luhansk region who need it for six years and actively engaged in public activities in support of Ukraine.
“Most of today's cargo is clothing for children, youth, adults, medical equipment for hospitals and household items. This is not much, but it is a sign of confidence and that we do not forget what is happening in Ukraine. And we continue to believe in your victory — not only in prayer, but also in deed,” said Chief Chaplain of the National Armed Forces of the Republic of Latvia Elmars Plavins, who organizes and coordinates the collection, arrangement and delivery of humanitarian aid.
“The National Guard was the first to cooperate with us, always helping with delivery, security and other logistical issues. We cooperate in various directions and are very friendly with the chaplain service of the NGU. Over the years of the humanitarian aid campaign, we have already transported about 500 tons,” Elmars added.
The next humanitarian aid from the Republic of Latvia to the territory of Luhansk and Donetsk region is planned in the autumn.
