The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine visited parts of the Ivano-Frankivsk garrison
The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Colonel-General Mykola Balan, visited the military unit 1241 of the National Guard of Ukraine, whose units are located in Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions. It is in this part that the mountain patrol company of the NGU is based — a unique unit on the territory of Ukraine formed at the end of 2016. The activities of the mountain patrol company are based on the experience of colleagues from the Gendarmerie of Romania.
The soldiers patrol the streets of the city and nearby settlements within the mountainous terrain as part of road and foot patrols, as well as carry out search and rescue operations together with the authorities interacting to provide assistance to lost citizens in mountainous and forested areas.
The general objectives of the projects, which were implemented with the financing of the joint operational program “Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020”, were to increase the level of trust of citizens in border areas to representatives of law enforcement units, namely the Romanian gendarmerie and the National Guard of Ukraine by increasing efficiency, mobility and cooperation between formations.
As part of the projects, the purchase of a snowblower, night vision devices, thermal imagers, body cameras, ATV, mobile psychological support center, patrol cars, buses and other material means that help to effectively perform assigned tasks in border regions and create comfortable security conditions for the local population was carried out.
Colonel-General Mykola Balan noted during the speech: “The main efforts were aimed at improving the level of training of the mountain patrol company. During the implementation of the projects, the exchange of experience of joint law enforcement activities and joint training was actively implemented. It is important that the activities of this Program were actively held in the border areas of Ukraine and Romania. Romanian and Ukrainian colleagues held a large number of meetings on the exchange of experience on the territory of both countries.”
Also, Colonel-General Mykola Balan held a meeting with the personnel, during which he proved what work is being done on reforms and improving the material and household condition of servicemen, about the measures that are being carried out for social security Protection of military personnel and their families. During this meeting, the commander of the National Guard awarded the servicemen with diplomas, presented the badge “For Valorous Service” and the valuable gift of a watch.
Recall: During 2021, 2 joint tactical exercises were conducted, during which the partners carried out direct work on issues of interdepartmental interaction, namely tactics of actions of personnel of subordinate units in case of illegal crossing of the state border.
According to the results of 9 months of service, 5513 people were detained by the personnel for administrative offenses, 232 people for committing crimes, 19 units of firearms, 5 units of cold weapons, 1 kg. 420 grams of narcotic substances and 76 units of ammunition were seized.
As a result of the implementation of 4 cross-border cooperation projects, the National Guard of Ukraine has expanded both the geography of operations of units in mountainous areas and increased the number of personnel involved in the implementation of tasks.
