Cyber Police Expose Criminal Group of Colony Prisoners in Internet Fraud
The attackers, while in custody, posted fake ads on social networks about the provision of services and the sale of goods. The main condition was a subscription, however, after receiving money - the defendants removed the ads and “disappeared”.
Fraudulent activities of the criminal group were exposed by employees of the cybercrime prevention department in Lviv region together with the investigative department of the regional police.
Four people robbed citizens while serving sentences in a correctional colony. The defendants posted ads on the social network about the provision of various services, including employment abroad, assistance in the production of documents, as well as the sale of goods.
The main condition was a subscription, but after receiving the money, the attackers removed the ads and stopped communicating with customers. On average, the subscription amount was about 5,000 hryvnia.Residents of different regions of Ukraine were affected
by fraudulent schemes. The total amount of losses is established.
Police officers assisted by the Western Interregional Directorate of the Ministry of Justice and correctional colony workers conducted searches at the place where the offenders were punished. Removed mobile phones, tablets, bank cards and “rough” records. The TOR battalion of patrol police was also involved in the searches.
