Cyberpolice exposed entrepreneur in violation of copyright of Ukrainian TV broadcasters
The defendant carried out the retransmission of TV channels without the consent of the rights holders. Thus, he caused more than half a million hryvnias in damages to intellectual property owners.
The offenses were exposed by the officers of the department of combating cybercrimes in the Kiev region together with the investigators of the Belotserkivsk district police department.
It was established that a resident of Kyiv region created a private enterprise that provided paid services for watching TV channels. With the help of telecommunication equipment, the man set up retransmissions of the largest Ukrainian broadcasters, despite the lack of their permits. As a result, more than 600,000 hryvnias of losses were caused to intellectual property owners.
In the office of the provider, police officers together with a representative of the expert service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine conducted a search. According to the results, telecommunications equipment and documentation confirming the illegal provision of cable television services were seized.
Criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 176 (Violation of copyright and related rights) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions continue.
