The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine announced this today, November 9, during an online speech at the conference of the International Association of Women Police Officers, which is held in the Republic of Indonesia. For comparison, for the whole of the past 2020, there were more than 208 thousand such appeals in Ukraine.

At the same time, she stressed that these data do not indicate that the facts of domestic violence in the country have become more or less. This is evidence that people have become more informed about this phenomenon, know how to recognize it and where to turn for help.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the work of law enforcement in combating domestic violence has also become more effective. During 2020, the National Police of Ukraine received 208,784 (141,814 in 2019) statements and reports of crimes committed and other incidents related to domestic violence, of which 182,088 were filed by women and 3,433 - by children (in 2019 - 113,403 and 1,881).

The number of mobile domestic violence response groups, which already operate in 67 cities, has more than doubled (from 45 to 86).

“Mobile response groups for domestic violence cases and their counteraction sectors are by far the most effective, trained and professional units,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.

During her speech, she told foreign colleagues about the steps taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to overcome domestic violence in the country. About 400 people took part in the offline conference, more than 1000 - joined online. In total, representatives from almost 40 countries of the world were involved in the event.

For reference: The International Association of Women Police Officers (MAJP) was established in 1915 in Los Angeles, California. Today, MAJP brings together members from more than 70 countries, holding training conferences each year in various locations around the world, welcoming diversity and inclusion, continuing the traditions established by the founders.

Recall that overcoming domestic violence is a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
