Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine held a working meeting between representatives of the Ministry and the US Embassy in Ukraine. The parties discussed the issue of combating trafficking in human beings in Ukraine and abroad.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterina Pavlichenko told foreign colleagues about the steps taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in this direction. She assured that the fight against human trafficking was and remains a priority in the work of the Ministry and the National Police of Ukraine.
“We understand all the challenges facing the Ukrainian law enforcement system today in the context of human trafficking. We also understand that our National Police units need to update their approaches and reformat. Since we want to bring law enforcement structures to a new level in the fight against trafficking in human beings, we need to improve their work now,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
For her part, the head of the law enforcement department of the US Embassy in Ukraine, Sarah Lengenkamp, thanked the representatives of the Ministry for their activity and cooperation in the issues of human rights violations. She noted that Ukraine is one of the few countries that cooperate so openly with the states on this issue and assured that the American side will continue to support the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
During the meeting, Acting Head of the Department of Migration Police of NPU Igor Malakhov expressed gratitude to the American side for the support in the creation of the service and its comprehensive support.
“The fidelity of the motion vector chosen by us is confirmed by the results. Since the beginning of the year, 30 organized criminal groups of human traffickers and organizers of illegal migration have been exposed. We participate in four international investigative groups with the aim of cross-border prosecution of traffickers,” said Igor Malakhov.
The participants of the meeting noted that they will make every effort to bring to a qualitatively new level the issue of preventing and combating human trafficking in Ukraine, protecting the rights of victims, as well as bringing the perpetrators to justice.
