Kateryna Pavlichenko: “The State Emergency Service is the first in the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct a gender study in its ranks”

Today, October 4, the presentation of the study “Equal Rights and Opportunities and Non-Discrimination in the State Emergency Service of Ukraine” took place in Kyiv. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko, who deals with equal rights and opportunities in the department, noted that today they presented the results of a long-term research work - the gender study of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Based on the results, the Ministry has already identified the main areas on which it will work in the future.

Thanks to this work, the SNS received an action plan from the international organization “UN Women” (UN Women). This will be a roadmap on the way to improving equal rights and opportunities in the SNS.

Work on the study lasted more than a year, starting in September 2020. Gender assessment covered 12 different aspects of the work of the SNS. Nearly 1,700 respondents were interviewed during the year. According to the results of the survey, an action plan has already been created, which will be presented this year.

Among the main findings of the study:

- There is an annual positive trend of increasing the proportion of women working in the system of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine by 0.5%;

- There is a gender imbalance among ordinary and managerial staff (the number of women in 2020 was 11.1% and 88.9% of men;

- 5.9% of men from among the employees of bodies and units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are on leave to care for a child until they reach the age of three.

“You have done a lot of work, to attract the maximum number of employees of the State Emergency Service, institutions of higher education for civil protection, held more than 10 internal meetings, more than 25 trainings for personnel, a number of interviews, interviewed more than 1600 employees and analyzed more than 400 regulatory acts,” the deputy said Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko addressing the organizers of the study.

Recall: the Ministry of Internal Affairs implements the policy of gender equality in the activities of the department.
