On the seventh anniversary of the liberation of Mariupol from militants, fighters of the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received honors

Today, June 13, police officers of Donetsk region joined the commemoration of the anniversary of the liberation of the city from illegal armed formations. Seven years ago, peace was returned to the territory of Mariupol by the forces of the Azov regiment, the National Guard and law enforcement agencies.

The events of 2014 remained forever in the memory of Mariupol citizens. Shelling of residential neighborhoods, numerous riots and provocations. During the terrorist aggression, 31 people were killed and 117 wounded.

Law enforcement officers, servicemen and brave patriots — fighters of the Azov volunteer regiment, came to the defense of Mariupol. On June 13, 2014, the city was liberated from illegal armed formations.

Today, a column of military equipment and a foot column of representatives of the security forces moved along the central avenue to the Theater Square in honor of the heroes: employees of the National Police of Ukraine, the Azov regiment, servicemen, rescuers and cadets of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The defenders of the city were congratulated by the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Balan, Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces for Police Use Ruslan Moroz, First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Mykhailo Koval, Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces Viktor Hanushchak, Chief of Police of Donetsk region Nikolay Semenyshyn.

Representatives of state authorities and local self-government, the leadership of leading universities and representatives of other bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs joined the celebrations.

“This day has become remarkable not only for Mariupol, but also for the whole of Ukraine. Seven years ago, this victory took place thanks to the caring civilian patriots of our state. Volunteers who, not waiting for a call, but at their own call, united in order to defend their native land. Soldiers and law enforcement officers who were ready to perform the tasks assigned to them. I am proud of you!” - the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Balan addressed the defenders.

Those present honored the memory of the dead heroes with a minute of silence.

“Today we are united by love for Ukraine, love for Mariupol and faith in our victory. It will take place because the truth is behind us,” stressed the chief of police of Donetsk region Nikolay Semenyshyn.

56 soldiers who participated in the special operation and are now defending Donetsk region, awarded firearms and other decorations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard of Ukraine badge “For Valorous Service”, the Commendation of the Commander of the Joint Forces “For Vigilance and Loyalty”, thanks to the regional state administration and the city council.

The Commendation of the Commander of the Combined Forces “Cossack Cross” of the III degree was awarded to the Acting Deputy Chief of the Police Department — Head of the Criminal Police Sector of the Police Department No. 1 of the Mariupol District Police Department Yevhen Danno.

The celebrations ended with a march of defenders under the musical accompaniment of the GUNP orchestra in Donetsk region.
