Denis Monastyrsky: The preliminary cause of the fire in the metropolitan church of St. Nicholas is a short circuit in the organ

This was announced today, September 4, by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky during a review of the consequences of the fire in the church, which occurred yesterday, September 3, late in the evening.

Denis Monastyrsky said that at the moment rescuers of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, which extinguished the fire, and representatives of the National Police, who are conducting investigations, as well as church workers, are working at the scene.

“Previously, the cause of the fire was a short circuit in the organ. It was at that time, after 21.00 hours, a rehearsal was held in the church. At present, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 270 (Violation of fire safety requirements established by law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A number of examinations are appointed. Within a week, experts should give a final conclusion on the cause of the fire,” the interior minister said.

In addition, Denis Monastyrsky noted that the fire damaged the interior decoration of the historic building and the unique organ. The structure of the church is not threatened by anything, the floor is not damaged. In the future, restoration of the building is planned.

“Firefighters arrived at the scene within 6 minutes after the report of the fire on the 101 hotline. If their response had been longer, obviously there would have been greater consequences of the fire,” he added.

Recall that on September 3, the State Emergency Service received information that in the Pechersk district of the capital on the street. Bolshaya Vasylkivska, 75, in the organ hall of the Church of St. Nicholas there was a fire. At 22:40 rescuers located the fire. At 23:26 - liquidated. The fire partially damaged the organ and the interior decoration of the church. There are no casualties or casualties. 80 fighters and 16 units of SNSS equipment were involved in the extinguishing.
