A day that will forever remain in memory: Chernobyl celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident
Today, April 26, the chief of police of the Kiev region Andrey Nevitov paid tribute to law enforcements-liquidators of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The leadership of the Kiev police, together with veterans and active police officers of the exclusion zone, visited the historical exposition dedicated to law enforcers-liquidators. Thus, on December 14, 2020, at the entrance to the city of Chernobyl, a traffic police post of the 1986 model was restored. She reminds guests of the courage and self-sacrifice of the accident liquidators.
The leadership of the Kiev police expressed gratitude and respect to the veterans-liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.
“More than 500 liquidators of the internal affairs bodies paid for saving citizens with their lives. We appreciate the heroism of our colleagues. It is on their actions that the character of modern police youth is hardened,” Andriy Nevitov noted.
The 28 veterans of the OWS were honored with commemorative orders, badges, medals, and letters of thanks. Also, the police of the Kiev region resolved the issue of providing charitable assistance to seriously ill participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
There was a solemn laying of flowers at the monument to the deceased participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant near the police department No. 1 (m. Chernobyl) of the Vyshgorod district police department. The memory of the dead was honored with a minute of silence.
Also, Volodymyr Shkuratenko, Chairman of the Council of Veterans of Kyiv Region and Chairman of the Police Council of Veterans Vasyl Bezverkhyi, who directly participated in the liquidation of the accident, spoke about the efforts of law enforcement officers in saving the population.
At the end, police colonel Andrey Nevitov thanked the heroes and wished good health, harmony, peace and prosperity.
As a sign of gratitude to the liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the leadership of the district police departments of the Kiev region also provides for meetings with participants, families of deceased liquidators and persons with disabilities, clarification of their social problems and provision of possible assistance.
From April 26, 1986 to 1990, more than 7,000 employees of the internal affairs bodies of the Kyiv region took part in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP. Currently, 24 liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant of category 1 and 2 are working in the GUNP in the Kiev region.
Many of them paid for it at the cost of their own lives and health. We will always remember that we will never forget their feat!
