Despite the preventive work that is constantly carried out by law enforcement officers and rescuers, annual statistics show that citizens still neglect the elementary rules of behavior on the water. At the same time, the most common cause of the tragedy is bathing in a state of intoxication.

In order to prevent drownings, police along with rescuers conduct raids in the recreation areas of citizens near water bodies. Particular attention during such events is paid to information work, they talk about the basic safety rules, in particular, the need to take into account high-speed currents and danger zones, as well as the fact that you can swim only in specially designated places.

Kyiv Police Chief Andriy Kryshchenko noted that law enforcement officers constantly patrol the water area of water areas to prevent accidents: “Daily water police work, patrols serve in places of recreation of citizens, and this is the water area of the Dnieper River with its straits, bays, Kaniv zone The reservoir and the Desenka River, which is about 120 kilometers in total. However, despite all preventive measures, 42 people have died in the water in Kyiv since the beginning of the year, including 20 people, including one minor — in June. At the same time, police rescued 26 people who tried to cross the Dnieper, but overestimated their strength. Most of them were intoxicated.”

Law enforcement officials urge Kyiv residents and visitors to be conscious and responsible, not to drink alcohol during rest, not to dive in unfamiliar areas, not to swim behind buoys and not to let children out of sight for a minute.
