This was announced today, September 24, by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterina Pavlichenko during the award ceremony of representatives of the NGO “Public Movement “Social Unity”, who help create an accessible space for people with hearing impairments.

It is worth noting that all volunteers of the NGO, who today received valuable gifts — watches, work as translators of sign language and on a voluntary basis translate the appeals of citizens with hearing impairment to the call centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This year alone, they processed more than 6 thousand applications.

“The last week of September is Hearing Impaired People's Week, which is designed to draw attention to this problem. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been fruitfully cooperating with the public organization “Public Movement “Social Unity” for more than a year within the framework of creating a barrier-free space for people with hearing impairment. At the moment we have six joint large-scale projects, I hope that this work will continue”, - emphasized Kateryna Pavlichenko.

The Deputy Minister noted that representatives of the NGO received awards because they make a huge contribution to overcoming barriers in society.

“Today we gathered to celebrate the work of the organization “Public Movement “Social Unity”. You make every effort to ensure that people with hearing impairments who need to contact the organs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have the opportunity to get the help they need. From the Minister of Interior and from myself, I want to thank you for your efforts,” she said.

Kateryna Pavlichenko added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to work on the implementation of the National Strategy for Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine, which was developed and presented by Ms. Elena Zelenska “Ukraine without barriers”.

Adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko said that 500,000 Ukrainians have hearing impairment, but this should not limit their ability to use the services provided by the Ukrainian state, in particular the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Our main service is the issue of citizen safety. This is an opportunity to quickly call the police or rescuers for help. This is a question of filling out documents that are necessary for the life of every citizen of Ukraine. For people with hearing impairment, effective communication should be established, which is possible only through the use of modern technologies and electronic services, which are developed by a public organization,” said the adviser to the minister.

Anton Gerashchenko added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to implement services that will simplify interaction and communication with citizens. Anyone who has a hearing impairment should not feel abandoned.

“A number of videos have already been filmed, they are presented on the Internet, which show how on a tablet or phone people with hearing impairments can contact the police or rescuers and get help. And now we will do so that these services are available in every region of Ukraine,” he said.

Recall that in Kiev, 200 patrol cars have tablets with special software that allows you to receive appeals from people with hearing impairments.
