In two days of work at the site of mass burial in Izyum, law enforcement officers exhumed 59 bodies of the dead

Investigators continue to record the consequences of Russia's war crimes. 105 police officers, 10 forensic laboratories, 10 forensic experts of the Kharkiv Regional Bureau of SME, 80 employees of the State Emergency Service were involved in the investigative actions at the scene and ensuring their conduct.

The temporary occupation of the city lasted from March 07 to September 10, 2022. For five months, the armed formations of the Russian Federation carried out massive shelling of the city and its surroundings with various types of weapons, killed and tortured local residents.

After the de-occupation of the city of Izyum from the Russian occupiers, employees of the Izyum district department of the police of the GUNP in the Kharkiv region received information about the presence of a place of mass burial of people who were victims of war crimes committed by the soldiers of the aggressor country and the occupation established in the city of Izyum de poder.

Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 438 (violation of laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On September 16, law enforcement officers discovered 445 graves with crosses. Exhumation of 23 graves was carried out, 22 bodies were recovered. All bodies have late putrefactive changes and are partially mummified. Some of the bodies of the dead show signs of torture — fragments of ropes around the neck and other parts of the body, fractures of limbs, etc.

Also at the scene of the incident, a mass burial of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was discovered, in which there were 17 dead people.

On September 17, the work of the investigators and the specialists involved was resumed. 20 people were removed from the graves.

In total, 59 bodies of the dead were recovered from the burial site, of which: 16 men, 26 women, 17 servicemen.

The bodies of the dead civilians and military are sent to a forensic institution for forensic examination.

The pre-trial investigation continues. All necessary investigative actions are carried out aimed at the complete, comprehensive recording of crimes, the identification of the persons involved.
