“Installing additional video surveillance cameras on the roads and in public places will reduce the crime rate,” - Leonid Tymchenko
It is planned to connect 50 thousand video surveillance cameras to the Unified System of Video Monitoring of the State of Public Security, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko on the air of the national tele-marathon “United News”.
“We are talking about the streets of the cities of our country, which today are not covered by war, these are directly those cities that are not near the zones of open fighting,” the Deputy Minister informed. - Cameras will be installed on public roads and in crowded places. Eight thousand cameras are already integrated into the system today.”
Currently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is considering a draft law on the Unified System of Video Monitoring of the State of Public Security, which will provide, in particular, the rules for the placement of cameras, access to information, as well as the procedure for the implementation of centralized control over the protection and preservation of information.
“We say that in the long term, cameras that are administered to business entities, such as those in entertainment centers, will be connected to the system. We are also talking about gas stations and other public places where economic activities are carried out, - said Leonid Tymchenko. - And, of course, for these business entities, the draft law will develop safety rules - how access to these video surveillance cameras will be carried out, how they will be administered and how they will be used information”.
The installation and integration of video surveillance cameras into a single system aims to ensure the safety of citizens, which is the duty of law enforcement agencies, the Deputy Minister stressed: “It is the duty of the state in the first place — to ensure the safety of our citizens.
This causes the need to install video surveillance cameras in public places, as well as places of large crowds of people. Such cameras should be in a single integration platform.”
It is assumed that the functioning of the Unified System of Video Monitoring of the State of Public Security will not only reduce the level of crime, but also allow preventive activities.
“In those places where there was a high concentration of accidents, after installing CCTV cameras, the concentration of accidents is reduced to zero. If citizens know about the work of cameras in public places and on highways, this stimulates them to comply with traffic rules, - Leonid Tymchenko stressed. - In addition, the operation of the video monitoring system allows you to conduct analytics - record information and further analyze it, in particular, about persons and vehicles that are wanted ku”.
