To save those who have lost hope for salvation — “white angel” from Maryinka Rustam Lukomsky
He is known by all the inhabitants. This Rustam rushed into the winter river to pull the man out. He carried a woman several hundred meters to evacuate. Under the shelling, he took a seriously wounded man, despite a punctured wheel. For an hour he disassembled the rubble of the house in the hope of saving the owner. Brings people food, water and medicine “to zero” every day. The policeman became one of the founders of the crew, which focused on rescuing residents from the front line in Donetsk region.
Locals nicknamed the crew the “White Angel”, because people in a snow-white car did what was thought impossible, came where others did not go. The permanent helmsman — Rustam Lukomsky, police officer of the patrol police response sector of the police department No. 2 (m. Kurakhovo). Before the war, he worked in the traffic police, hence his driving skills, which now saves lives. And he gained combat experience in the “hot” points of Donetsk region, since 2014 he served in a combined detachment of law enforcement officers on the line of contact - Avdiyivka, Maryinka, Krasnogorovka.
The policeman notes that the constant shelling suffered by residents of the frontline areas - traumatizes the human psyche.
“It is impossible to get used to war. People do not stand it, cease to understand what they are doing, are disoriented. The inhabitants have no connection, so we communicate with them, we tell them what is being done to save them, that they must leave their homes to survive. We persuade ourselves to take care of ourselves,” says Rustam Lukomsky.
Since February 24, a senior police sergeant has been practically living in a car, and his phone does not go silent: “We are injured, help... We are running out of food... Save my baby...”. “White Angel” is recalled for every call.
“Our business has completely changed. Emphasis on evacuation to save as many lives as possible. During the day we make 3-4, or even more flights to Maryinka. As much as you need, so much and we will drive in. Where we can not go, we get on foot. We bring people out of the fire. They have to live. When you see the eyes of rescued people, especially children, for whom the horror is already behind, it is impossible to put it into words,” says a law enforcement officer who literally carried an elderly woman from the fourth floor on his back.
The policeman with his partners evacuated about 1000 people, returned the wounded to life more than once. But the greatest pain for Rustam was the moment when he could not save a person:
“One man was constantly coming for humanitarian aid, and then he was gone. They asked about him, searched, and only a month later they found a house under the rubble. An hour was taken apart. It is a pity that they could not be found immediately - perhaps he could have been helped and he would not have died. It's a pity that I can't get help every time.”
The big heart of the law enforcement officer attracts residents to him. Here, at the epicenter of the fighting, citizens and police came together and helped each other. About one of the cases, Rustam says with a tremor in his voice:
“In Marinka, we picked up a murdered man. And the women came out of the shelters and helped us carry the body...”.
The “White Angel” saves not only people, but also animals left without a home. Rustam and his colleagues took out two dogs and found new loving families for them.
The senior police sergeant has been serving people for 24 years, but is not going to retire.
“To defeat the enemy, we must stand up for Ukraine and do our job. Donetsk region is my land, and it gives me the strength to work every day. After the victory, I will continue to help people in the same way,” says Rustam Lukomsky.
