The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading two bills aimed at combating domestic violence
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Bogdan Drapyaty announced this on his official Facebook page.
We are talking about draft laws:
The purpose of this draft Law of Ukraine is to settle the issue of the application of restrictive measures to combat domestic violence in terms of the use of electronic means of control that track the offender's compliance with the requirements of restrictive orders and restrictive measures and relate to the prohibition of approaching the injured person. At this time, 97.6 thousand persons who committed domestic violence (offenders) are registered with the National Police of Ukraine, 64.1 thousand of them registered this year.
The purpose of the draft law is to bring the norms of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses and the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men” in line with the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and Combating this phenomenon and improving the procedural procedure for the consideration of such affairs.
Bohdan Drapyaty stressed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the National Police are the central executive bodies responsible for the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of combating domestic violence.
For 10 months of 2023, the National Police received more than 196 thousand applications, reports of committed offenses and other incidents related to domestic violence, which is 24 percent more than the previous year (155.7 thousand in 2022).
Further adoption (approval) of the above-mentioned draft laws will significantly increase the level of counteraction to this negative phenomenon in our state.
“We are preparing proposals for the drafting of draft laws before the second reading. I thank the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Activities, the initiators of the draft laws Registry No. 5629 and Register No. 8329, and to all the People's Deputies of Ukraine for supporting current legislative initiatives,” Bohdan Drapyaty summed up.
