Teacher-geologist Ivan Knysh became a border guard and received the nickname “Professor”
For several months, the soldier as part of his unit guarded the northern borders of our state, and later went to the East of the country, where for more than three months he performed tasks in the Donetsk direction.
“I did not wait for the summons, but immediately arrived at the military enlistment office. I did not hesitate for a minute and clearly realized that I would participate in hostilities, so I was ready for it,” the border guard shares.
Before the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the man worked for almost 20 years as a teacher at the Faculty of Geology of Lviv National University named after him. AND. Frank, this is where his nickname “Professor” comes from.
“Once, being at “zero”, there was a shelling of our positions, where we, together with the soldiers of the Armed Forces, held the defense. During the long battle with the occupiers, the armies suffered some losses and I assumed command. With my brothers, we repelled the enemy attack, destroyed the enemy infantry and evacuated the wounded. For more than a day I acted as a senior in the position until the replacement arrived,” recalls the border guard.
Now Ivan is serving in Lviv region in one of the border units. I decided to master a new profession for myself - canology. However, he dreams above all that Ukraine will win and that it will return to everyday life and to its students.
For personal courage and dedication, demonstrating in defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Border Guard Officer Ivan Knysh was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the 3rd degree by the Decree of the President of Ukraine.
