Today, February 7, the Parliament of Ukraine appointed Igor Klymenko as the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. 321 MPs voted “for”.

During his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, Igor Klymenko noted that to head the Ministry of Internal Affairs is an honor and at the same time personal responsibility for maintaining the stability and manageability of the system during this difficult period for the whole country.

“The fact that the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the backbone of security, withstood the first days and months of a full-scale invasion and subsequently only strengthened, and the level of trust in it has grown unprecedentedly during this time is an indisputable merit of Minister Denis Monastyrsky and members of his team. And at the cost of daily efforts and, unfortunately, irreversible losses, we continue to ensure the rule of law in the state and the safety of citizens,” said Igor Klymenko.

He stressed that since the beginning of the full-scale military invasion, the sphere of responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system has expanded significantly, the number of tasks and functions has increased: direct participation in hostilities, documentation of war crimes, elimination of consequences of enemy shelling, large-scale humanitarian demining, ensuring public order in conditions of martial law and curfew, service at checkpoints, evacuation of the population, etc.

“Despite the significant burden, the difficult state of war in the state and the difficult socio-economic situation, the general criminogenic situation is under full control. All available forces and means are accumulated so that citizens feel as safe as possible in the current conditions,” added Igor Klymenko.

In addition, he recalled that the Ministry of Internal Affairs began the formation of assault brigades “Guard of Offensive”, and in the near future also the development of a Strategy for Public Security and Civil Protection, taking into account the challenges of the martial law.

“There are really a lot of tasks. And each of these tasks is extremely important for the safety of both the individual citizen and the state as a whole. Everyone is united by the main task facing every Ukrainian — our fastest Victory”, - added Igor Klymenko.
