The Ministry of Internal Affairs has developed a procedure for working with released prisoners of war, - Kateryna Pavlichenko
This procedure includes the provision of necessary treatment, prosthetics, rehabilitation to defenders released from captivity, social protection, as well as work with members of their families. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ekaterina Pavlichenko during a briefing at the Military Media Center.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has developed an intra-departmental procedure for working with released prisoners of war. This order covers the whole range of issues that we keep under control, starting from the moment we meet with the captive. This is the definition of the necessary treatment, prosthetics, rehabilitation. Separately, work is carried out with members of the families of released prisoners: wives, children, mothers. We determine the necessary package of assistance in solving social and domestic problems,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
She noted that one of these issues is the renewal of lost documents: service cards, certificates of combatants, driver's licenses, bank cards, mobile phone numbers, passports of a citizen of Ukraine and passports of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad.
“The Minister of Internal Affairs has set the task of the State Migration Service to recover all the lost documents of persons who were in captivity as soon as possible. Now the DMS has 103 applications for the renewal of such documents. Also under control is the issue of payment of one-time cash assistance in the amount of UAH 100 thousand provided by the state for those released from captivity within the framework of the exchange of persons. The relevant documents are currently being collected,” said Ekaterina Pavlichenko.
She also recalled that she recently visited the freed during the large-scale exchange of prisoners of war on September 21.
“I want to note that today they are all safe, doctors and psychologists are working with them. At the first stage, they undergo all the necessary examinations, a comprehensive diagnosis is carried out with them and determined in accordance with the needs of each, which in the future will be carried out rehabilitation and treatment”
Separately, the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that thanks to the help of international partners, the Ministry of Internal Affairs managed to send to rest children whose parents serve in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as whose parents were injured, died during the service, or are in captivity. Children rested in the camp “Security Guards”.
“In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively included in the National Program for Psychological Health and Psychological Support of the Population, which is implemented under the auspices of First Lady Elena Zelenskaya. There, a separate block is working with children whose parents died or were injured during the defense of the Motherland,” Ekaterina Pavlichenko stressed.
Also, a separate block of the National Program provides for the rehabilitation of soldiers released from captivity.
In turn, the director of the Department of Health and Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anatoly Smyk said that a clear system of providing medical care to those released from captivity has been created in departmental health institutions.
“The health facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs provide specialized and emergency care. In this case, specialists of leading medical and scientific institutions of Ukraine will be involved to make the diagnosis. Persons released from captivity from the first day are provided with qualified psychological and medico-psychological care, as well as rehabilitation. In order to expand the scope of medical care and rehabilitation, reconstruction of one of the specialized institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is being actively carried out today, where modern rehabilitation approaches and equipment will be used,” said Anatoly Smyk.
