Murder of Deputy Mayor of Nikopol: Suspect Detained
Police of Dnipropetrovsk region detained a suspect in the murder of the deputy mayor of Nikopol. On February 8, the police received a report that an unknown person shot a car in one of the areas of the city.
At the scene of the incident, the body of the 59-year-old deputy mayor of the city was found in the interior of the burned vehicle. Nikopol.
As it turned out, the 33-year-old local resident had been preparing for the crime for four months. That day, having armed himself and established the route of movement, he waited for the deputy mayor. As the victim's car pulled closer, the defendant fired more than 20 automatic weapon shots and threw a grenade into the car, resulting in the car catching fire and the death of the official. The police found that the attacker buried the weapon of the crime in the forest.
On February 11, investigators informed the attacker of suspicion under paragraph 5 part 2 of Art. 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention.
