Today, one of the educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs held the final lecture of the Educational Marathon within the framework of the World Action “16 Days Against Violence”. The event was opened by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko, and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets and Commissioner for European Court of Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine Margarita Sokorenko delivered a lecture to cadets and students.

This year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs focused on our youth and education. Lectures on human rights protection in Ukraine were attended by almost three thousand future law enforcement officers, rescuers and lawyers from 13 universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Today comes to an end one of the large-scale events of this year — the Educational Marathon within the framework of the World Action “16 Days Against Violence”. Over the course of two weeks, in more than ten universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we held events where we discussed really important issues in the field of combating any manifestations of violence in Ukraine. The event was attended by many speakers, including heads and representatives of state authorities, local governments and many other specialists in this field. So I want to thank them for their time and attention to one of the important topics of today,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.

In turn, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights held a lecture for the audience on the topic “Human rights and freedoms are the highest social value. Parliamentary control over the observance of constitutional rights and freedoms in conditions of war.” Dmytro Lubinets noted that this initiative took place for the first time in Ukraine.

“Human rights and freedoms are the highest social value. In the system of our state there are many departments and bodies that are responsible for the protection of human rights or for the prevention so that such rights are not violated. Our institution today acts as a mediator between citizens and the state. At the same time, I would like to point out that the National Police plays the biggest role, because employees face violations of such rights on a daily basis and protect them. I hope that young people like you will change the future of Ukraine for the better!”, - stressed the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights.

Margarita Sokorenko, Commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, also gave a short lecture.

“Today we very often see violations of human rights, especially in the crimes of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. As of December, we have 10,600 individual applications to the European Court of Justice. Of these, more than 8,000 relate to human rights violations during the war. Another mechanism for the protection of rights is interstate lawsuits, which we actively file thanks to the support of our partner states and have already had the first results in favor of Ukraine.”

During the two-week educational marathon within the framework of the World Action “16 Days Against Violence”, lectures were held on tools to combat domestic and gender-based violence in Ukraine; human trafficking in conditions of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine; creation of a barrier-free environment in our country, etc.
