In the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the International Coordination Center on Humanitarian Demining has started work. It aims to minimize the risks from the effects of explosives on people. The functions of the Secretariat are entrusted to the State Emergency Service.

As noted by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky, it will take years for the demining of Ukrainian territories after the Russian occupation. Regarding the timing, he said that the world norm is up to 30 days of demining for one day of active hostilities.

Since the beginning of the war, rescuers of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service have defused 90,432 munitions and more than 583 kg of explosives, including 1,964 aircraft bombs. Currently, an area of 16,370 hectares has been surveyed and cleared.

“As the occupied territories are liberated, we begin large-scale demining. And this is an incredible amount of tasks. To do this, we need the international help of our friends and partners. Both specialists, technology, finance, and the latest approaches using modern information technologies”, - noted Denis Monastyrsky.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopian, an expert on international relations and cooperation at the European level, has been appointed the head of the newly created Center.

The symbol of the Center became the well-known in Ukraine dog-pyrotechnician Patron from the team of rescuers of the State Emergency Service. He has helped to find and destroy more than two hundred mines.

We remind you that on the official website of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine there is an interactive map, where everyone can view the state of demining areas of Ukraine and get acquainted with the areas most contaminated with explosive objects.
