The Ministry of Internal Affairs discussed cooperation with UNDP in Ukraine

Today, September 28, Deputy Minister of the Interior Mary Akopian met with the Deputy Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and CIS, Marina Walter, to analyze the state of cooperation. In particular, the participants discussed the most priority areas — humanitarian demining and psychological support for employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of their families and the population.

Mary Akopyan said that today the area of the territory of Ukraine affected by the negative impact of hostilities is about 180 thousand square meters, and the issue of security in these territories is a priority not only for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but also for the whole state: “Since February 24, the State Emergency Service carried out tremendous work, identified and neutralized More than 200,000 explosive devices were found on an area of more than 700 sq. km.

And we are grateful to UNDP for the assistance provided to our units in this direction. Thanks to the action of the international technical assistance project, we aim to reduce the impact of explosives on the population affected by the consequences of the war and actors involved in humanitarian activities in Ukraine”.

Also, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs appealed with a proposal to support the pilot project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for psychological support of system employees, members of their families and the population who were affected by traumatic events received after the full-scale invasion of the Russian forces on the territory of Ukraine. Deputy Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and CIS Affairs, agreed with the importance of the issue of demining the deoccupied territories, and noted the resilience and ability of the Ukrainian authorities to professionally manage work processes in the conditions of war:

“Ukraine should not be compared with other countries, because its situation is different from everything that happens in the world. However, we are ready to help the country not only to overcome difficulties, but also to support it in its development. After all, the key direction for the development of countries and UNDP work is the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

In conclusion, the participants discussed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UNDP in Ukraine, which is currently under development, the subject of which will be discussed during the meeting.
