Soldier Andriy Soroka hails from Vinnytsia region, he served in the National Guard of Ukraine since 2013 and was always sure that in the event of a full-scale war he would defend the Motherland.

“Almost as soon as Andriusha went into service, Maidan and the Revolution of Dignity began, and then it all turned into a war in 2014,” recalls mother Svetlana Soroka.

During his 9 years of service, Andriy Soroka was in Donetsk region in the area of ATO, so he knew well what a real war looks like. He was calm before February 24, 2022, because he knew exactly how he was going to act.

Andrei was an artilleryman, he constantly studied calculations, read books about weapons and additionally took classes on studying the work of artillery. The brothers remember Andrei as a responsible commander, because he always went first to check positions and only then allowed his subordinates to go there.

In parallel with his service in the army, the guy built his home and dreamed of a family. Parents said that Andrei invested all his strength and energy in the construction, but now the parents have to independently finish the work of their son. Also in memory of Andrew, they took a dog that the guy really wanted.

Andriy Soroka died on November 1, 2022 in Donetsk region. There were only a few days left before his rotation and one task, which was his last.

“When I found out he was dead, I didn't believe it. Andriy was always careful and very worried about his boys. He was first a man, and then a military man,” said a friend and brother of the deceased.

The deceased national guard was left with his parents and a younger brother, who now also went into the army to avenge Andrew and Ukraine. The story of the National Guard Andriy Soroka can be found in the project “Shot by Russia” by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
