Shot by Russia: the occupiers killed a rescuer from Gostomel, whose body has not yet been found
August 29 — Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. On this day we remember all the fallen brave men and patriots of our country. One of them was Ruslan Koshovoy - the head of fire and rescue unit 30, which was located on the territory of the State Enterprise “Antonov” in Gostomel. The one that the Russian occupiers seized on February 24, 2022, and the rescue workers of the State Emergency Service, border guards and airport workers were taken captive.
On that terrible morning, February 24, 2022, which began with explosions and reports of the beginning of a full-scale war, Ruslan was at home with his wife and daughter. But as soon as the beginning of the invasion was announced, Ruslan began to hastily gather for work with his boys.
“I didn't try to stop him because it would be useless. He simply could not leave his subordinates, who were on shift in a part on the territory of the Antonov airport in Gostomel,” recalls his wife Natalia Koshova.
Arriving at work at 7 am, Ruslan told his relatives that the situation is under control and there is no need to worry. The connection with the man was until noon, after which it disappeared, and the first news appeared on TV about the attempts of the Russian army to seize the airport and land the landing.
Closer to lunch, Ruslan no longer answered either phone calls or messages. The family lived in obscurity until the evening, until the first official confirmation emerged that Ruslan Koshovoy was shot by Russian invaders while he was riding in a fire truck.
The occupiers did not take the body, promising to give it over in 2-3 days, but they did not keep the “promises”. Without any information, the Koshov family lived until the liberation of the Kiev region. In early April, when the colleagues of the murdered Ruslan were finally able to enter the territory of the Antonov State Enterprise, the search for the body began. However, they continue to this day. About the search for a full-scale war - see the project “Shot by Russia” from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
