In the upbringing of the policeman there are two dogs that have become more than pets for him.

“Chayva has been with me for eleven years, together we served near Avdiyivka, Kostiantynivka, Toretsk, Ocheretyne and other towns and villages, where I was detached as part of a combined detachment. She knew every path there, every landing, studied the territory everywhere we patrolled,” says the policeman.

The second dog of the breed “Laika” named Wolf is from the de-occupied Kharkiv region. Valeriy sheltered him a few months ago. He shared the story of rescuing an injured dog who ran up to him one day while on patrol. He felt sorry for the dog and he decided that there would definitely be a place for him in his house. The policeman took him to the vet, bought all the necessary medicines and vitamins. “He gave the name - Wolf, because he really looks like a wild beast, often bites and has a wayward character. Later I learned that he was evacuated from the de-occupied territory of the Kharkiv region, and the owner has not been found until now,” the policeman says.

The district officer's family has another Spitz dog, but he now lives with the wife and daughter of a policeman, who were evacuated from Nikopol due to constant Russian shelling. “I miss them very much, and dogs are with me everywhere - they are my consolation and consolation,” Valery shares.

Since 2014, the police officer has repeatedly served as part of the consolidated detachments in the Donetsk region. The last law enforcement rotation ended in December 2022, two months before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Now the policeman works in his native Nikopol, which is hit by shelling almost daily. Many years have passed since 2014, but the fact that his dogs are equally devoted to keeping up with their owner under the daily shelling and attacks of the occupiers in the city, in which Valery has been working for more than 26 years, remained unchanged.

“People here need our help, so we do everything to make them feel safe and supported,” says the policeman. - But animals are also harmed, which also suffer from the sounds of explosions. I always try to help homeless dogs.”

A week ago, the public in Nikopol flew by the announcement of the disappearance of the German Shepherd. As it turned out, the owner of the dog went to the hospital, and the dog missed her very much. One day he went in search of her and got lost. On October 18, Valery saw a shepherd on the street and did not pass by. The policeman used all his forces and within half an hour he found the contact of the person who was searching for the dog, and successfully returned him home.
