Counting on Seconds: Tactical Medicine by NATO Standards for National Guardsmen
Soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine practice providing medical assistance to the battlefield according to NATO standards.
For this, a special algorithm of actions is used. It is developed and recommended by renowned international organizations and tested by the troops of the North Atlantic Alliance countries in training and real military operations. Such classes are held under the close supervision and guidance of experienced instructors, in conditions as close as possible to the real ones: pyrotechnics, realistic mannequins, blood and even imitation of wounds are used.
“Despite the somewhat tight deadlines, we work out in detail every element, every action, even on which side it is better to approach, and often to crawl, to the wounded, how to cover the fire of our comrades during medical care and evacuation. We have extensive experience of participating in combat operations and assisting the wounded in battle. So all that we are working on is not just exercises, but real scenarios for the development of events in real battles using the latest NATO techniques. They showed themselves very well. The guards already know and know a lot. It can be seen that this is being done, but it is important to bring these skills to automatism. There will be no time to remember what and how to do in battle, because with many injuries, time goes by seconds, and you need to act immediately and without mistakes. We are sure that thanks to such training, it will be easier for soldiers and commanders to navigate in such a situation, because we ourselves have passed similar courses, and our combat experience and dozens of rescued military and civilian rye have proven the benefits of such classes,” the instructors say.
“It was cool! Such classes must be carried out as often as possible. This is hard work, a lot of strength is lost, because everything has to be done in full ammunition, to the point that you do not see the enemy, you do not understand where the fire is coming from. It is necessary not only to suppress the enemy with fire, but in a few seconds to impose a tourniquet in the right place, and finding a wound is not so easy when there is smoke and gunfire everywhere. We have gone through something like this before, but here, with the sounds of gunfire, explosions and realistic simulation of injuries, everything is different. Although it is better to learn this in advance, deliberately create uncomfortable conditions for yourself and work out everything at the training ground, than to then get lost and lose precious time to save your brother or yourself. It's not easy, but we're happy. In the end, that's what we came to the army for,” say the National Guardsmen, who took courses in tactical medicine.
