100 thousand dollars in profit every month: fraudulent call center ceased operations (VIDEO)
Law enforcement officers of the Ternopil region stopped the activities of the fraudulent call center. A group of persons “specialized” in the fraudulent seizure of funds of foreign citizens in particularly large sizes. For this purpose, office premises with specialized equipment were used.
Call center employees were carefully selected. For unhindered communication with potential victims, the staff had to speak a foreign language at a high level. Operators worked on existing customer bases. They were pre-purchased on DarkNet.
The attackers posed as employees of financial institutions and asked bank account holders for their personal information. To do this, psychological methods of influence and instructions developed in advance were used. For better communication, the latter was prescribed in Polish and Slovak.
In addition, call center operators offered EU citizens another fraudulent scheme - to invest personal funds in so-called “brokerage” projects with potentially high and fast profits. Having seized the bank data, the offenders transferred the funds of the victims to separate electronic wallets and bank cards. Subsequently, the funds received by the attackers were converted into cash on the territory of Ukraine.
The monthly income of the attackers was about $100,000. Under this scheme, the attackers searched 16 citizens of Poland and Slovakia for tens of thousands of dollars.
On February 13, a search was carried out at the location of the office premises on the territory of the city of Ternopil. As a result, the activities of the fraudulent call center were suspended, computer equipment, more than a hundred mobile phones, “rough” documentation and records were seized.
Further measures are currently being taken to identify the organizers of the international fraud scheme and other persons involved. Criminal proceedings are investigated under Part 5 of Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
