The ceremony of raising the flag of Ukraine with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, the highest state and military leadership took place near the Memorial of the defenders of the Buchan community.

The ceremony was attended by: Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal, Minister of Defense Rustom Umerov, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky, Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Syl Malyuk, Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak.

“For us, this is a war to defend Ukraine and everything that makes people human. That is why this war is of global importance. This is a war for the right to exist for our state and at the same time for the right to life for every human being. For dignity for our people and for every people who seek their destiny. This is a war so that no one dares to become a beast towards others,” the Head of State said, addressing those present.

According to him, when Ukrainian soldiers expelled Russian invaders from Bucha, Irpen, Borodianka and other cities and communities of Kyiv region, and then from Sumy, Chernihiv region - the whole world saw that these are victories not only of Ukrainian courage and weapons, but also of human morality.

“I am proud of everyone and everyone who dedicates their lives to ensuring that the life of all of our Ukraine is preserved. I thank everyone in the world who really helps us. And let the whole world never forget the price of this battle and what evil we stop here on our land,” the President of Ukraine noted.

The participants observed with a moment of silence the memory of all Ukrainians whose lives were taken by the Russian occupiers.

The Head of State presented the honorary decorations “City — Hero of Ukraine” to the mayor of Irpen and the head of the Gostomel settlement military administration.

In addition, Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the soldiers the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky II and III degrees, “For Courage” II and III degrees, medals “For Military Service to Ukraine”, “For Impeccable Service” of the III degree and “For Life Saved”.

In particular, the award-winning soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine — Sergeant Maxim Bovchalyuk and Sergeant Sergey Kvitko, who took part in fierce battles against the Russian occupiers in the Kiev region, patrol policeman Oleg Shvets, who participated in stabilization activities in the cities of Irpen, Buchi and Gostomeli, and police major Ivan Dulkay, who since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation has been documenting and investigating brazen war crimes of the Russian army.

The President also awarded employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Vitaly Farenyk and Pavel Zaika, who ensured the evacuation of civilians from the cities of Vorzel, Bucha, Borodianka, Irpen, Gostomel to Kyiv. Vitaliy Farenik showed extraordinary courage and heroism during the evacuation from the city of Irpen, when Russian troops opened fire on civilians near the bridge over the Irpin River in the village of Romanivka in Kyiv region.
