Roman Korol, Senior Inspector of Juvenile Prevention of Transcarpathian Police, has been defending the country from the first days of a full-scale invasion. Together with his brothers, he liberated the settlements of Kharkiv and Donetsk region.

In the break between combat exits, Roman mastered a new specialty and became an air scout. Their group had to perform combat missions under enemy fire more than once.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the law enforcement officer worked in the operational units of the police of the Transcarpathian region. In February 2022, Roman joined the consolidated detachment of the National Police “West”.

The fighter performed the first combat missions in Kharkiv region. Then there was Donetsk. The policeman liberated settlements from the enemy, and also helped local residents forced by the occupation. In the Donetsk region, Roman fought in one of the hottest directions - Bakhmut.

“It was in Donetsk region that I became interested in the work of air reconnaissance. After all, the safety of your guys, or the guys from the Armed Forces who are in front of you on the position depends on the skillful control of drones. If you detect enemy equipment or group in time, correctly adjust the fire of artillery or the same mortar, this attack will be muffled, the fighters will remain alive, we will not lose position,” the policeman shared.

The policeman learned to control drones in the intervals between combat exits. He soon began working as an air scout. Roman recalls that while performing combat missions, he and his colleagues repeatedly found themselves between life and death.

“We carried out tasks of reconnaissance of enemy positions, as well as adjusting artillery fire. We had already completed our task and were supposed to return, but we were “deducted”. An enemy tank opened fire on us. And yet one of the shells hit near the basement where we were. Miraculously, everyone remained alive, although they were a little hurt,” Roman said.

About his colleagues, with whom he passed more than one battle baptism, Roman says: “I went to war with my colleagues, and returned with my brothers. Only true brethren will support you, will not leave you, they will always rest their shoulder.”

In addition to loyal friends, Roman has a reliable rear. At home, his beloved wife and two daughters are waiting for him. The policeman recalls how he informed his family about his decision - he told his daughters that he was going on a business trip, his wife, of course, knew the truth:

“Before leaving, my wife gave me a talisman, which I still always carry with me. While at the position, my colleagues and I came under heavy fire. Our dungeon was covered with sand and clay, drowning us, and at that moment I felt the amulet ripped out of my hand. Under the shelling, I interrupted piles of sand, but still I found it.”

The policeman says that victory will surely be for us, because we are in our country, defending our land, our families.
