The police launched more than 26.4 thousand criminal proceedings on the facts of war crimes committed by the Russian occupiers
This was announced today, August 4, during a briefing by the Head of the Department of Organizational and Analytical Support and Operational Response of the National Police of Ukraine Oleksiy Sergeev.
According to him, the enemy continues the tactics of chaotic shelling of the territory of Ukraine. In the past day alone, the police recorded shelling of 34 settlements, as a result of which six civilians were killed and 38 were injured.
“A few hours ago, as a result of artillery shelling of Toretsk in Donetsk region, eight people were previously killed: seven civilians and one police officer — the deputy commissioner of the criminal police of the Bakhmut police department. Four people were also injured, including three children. A multi-storey building, a church and a public transport stop were damaged,” said the head of DOAZOR NPU.
He also noted that the National Police provides detailed documentation of all war crimes of the Russian Federation. Currently, the investigating departments have already started more than 26.4 thousand criminal proceedings on the facts of crimes committed by the occupiers on the territory of Ukraine.
Most — 18.5 thousand criminal proceedings — initiated on the facts of violation of the laws and customs of war (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine); 6.5 thousand — for encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). More than a thousand criminal proceedings have been initiated on the facts of collaborative activity (Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Alexey Sergeev noted that in the conditions of military confrontation, work on combating the illegal circulation of weapons becomes of particular importance.
“Since the beginning of the year, the police have exposed more than 3,000 cases of illegal handling of weapons. On average, about 14 such criminal offenses are registered every day. More than a thousand units of firearms were seized from illegal circulation,” said the head of the NPU department.
Alexey Sergeev added that the National Police takes an active part in identifying and detaining DRG members and collaborators. Since February 24, more than 1.6 thousand people involved in sabotage and intelligence activities have been detained on the territory of the state, of which 1.2 thousand have been transferred to the SBU.
In addition, law enforcement officers continue to evacuate the population from the areas of hostilities. In the last two weeks alone, more than 15,000 people have been evacuated with the direct participation of police officers.
At the same time, police explosives officers continue to survey the area where enemy positions were located and clashes took place. The units of the police explosives service carried out more than 11.6 thousand visits, 7.6 thousand hectares of territory were inspected. The police found and seized more than 103.1 thousand explosive items, as well as destroyed more than 26.1 thousand such items.
“All this once again confirms the indisputable fact that Russia purposefully commits terrorist acts against the population of Ukraine and, of course, is a terrorist state,” Oleksiy Sergeev said.
