The results of the humanitarian demining of the territory of Ukraine during the 95 days of the war were devoted to the briefing of representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service and the National Police, held today, May 30, at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.

Systematic and coordinated work on the demining of liberated territories is provided by all pyrotechnic units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service, the National Police and the National Guard. In total, more than 22,000 hectares of contaminated areas have already been surveyed. Every day, pyrotechnics remove from 2 to 5 thousand explosive objects.

“One day of active hostilities requires 30 days of demining. That is, it takes 5-7 years to clean the territories of Ukraine contaminated by the enemy as a result of 95 days of confrontation. In order to speed up this process, the Ministry of Internal Affairs established the International Coordination Center on Humanitarian Demining, whose activities are aimed at minimizing the risks associated with explosive objects,” said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alyona Matveeva.

International partners help Ukrainian pyrotechnics with special transport, equipment and equipment, as well as provide service dogs specializing in the search for weapons and explosives.

“Implementation of measures within the framework of the Partnership Agreement signed with the Danish Council Representation for Refugees in Ukraine continues. Draft agreements on cooperation in the field of humanitarian demining are being worked out with other organizations,” Alyona Matveeva informed.

At present, organizations from the UK, Turkey, Denmark, Norway, the USA, the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Ukraine and the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Republic of Poland have applied to the SNS; they have been given recommendations on the procedure for involving international organizations in carrying out work on humanitarian demining of the territories of Ukraine. In addition, 18 international organizations expressed their proposals for technical assistance.

“As of today, our pyrotechnics with the assistance of international partners in Ukraine have defused about 120 thousand explosive objects. The main transport roads and the area around critical infrastructure facilities have been cleared. Further priorities are the demining of territories in Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and other regions that have been hit by the enemy,” the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.

Recall that you can report a detected explosive object in a few clicks using the mobile application “Mining of Ukraine”. During the first week of operation, users of the application sent about 2 thousand messages.
