Oleksandr Karabyts reminded citizens that they can exchange or renew their driver's license abroad on the air of the national Marfon “United News”. Recently, this has become possible in Germany as well.

“Ukraine has started to provide public services in Germany. Among these services is the exchange of a driver's license. Due to the fact that there is cooperation between the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and SE “Dokument”, we already provide the service of exchanging a Ukrainian driver's license for the same Ukrainian one at 8 locations abroad. Since March 31, 39 applications have already been received from Berlin for the exchange of a driver's license,” said the First Deputy Head of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Oleksandr Karabyts stressed that in order to exchange a certificate, there must be a document that is subject to such exchange. You also need to have with you: a passport with the place of residence indicated in it, and if it is a passport in the form of an ID card, then there must be an extract from the place of registration of residence; a taxpayer card; a document confirming the change of surname or name, if this is an exchange in connection with a change of personal data.

Please note that the service of exchanging driver's licenses abroad is provided in cities such as: Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Prague, Bratislava, Istanbul and Berlin. In all these cities, separate divisions of the State Enterprise “Dokument” operate. The addresses can be found on the official website of the Passport Service.

“In addition, Ukrainians who are abroad can obtain a driver's license of the national model of the country where they are located. Bilateral agreements on mutual recognition of driver's licenses have already been signed between Ukraine and 4 countries of the world. These are Italy, Spain, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates,” said Oleksandr Karabyts.

These bilateral agreements provide for the exchange of licenses without passing exams in the authorized bodies for issuing driver's licenses. In the near future, the same agreement is expected to be signed with Lithuania. Upon returning to Ukraine for permanent residence, citizens will be able to exchange a foreign driver's license for a Ukrainian one.
