Searched citizens for more than 1.5 million hryvnias: a fraudster was exposed in Chernihiv region
Operatives of the Novgorod-Seversky regional department, together with SBU employees under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, exposed a local resident who created fake pages in one of the social networks. The man collected money on behalf of the woman allegedly for the treatment of the child, and on behalf of the soldier — funds for ammunition and a car.
Law enforcement officers identified ten people affected by the actions of the defendant: they transferred more than 1.5 million hryvnias to the attacker.
Recently, the police began to receive appeals that the user “Snizhana” in the social network, due to the difficult financial situation, asks for money for the treatment of his young daughter. Citizens drew attention to the fact that documents allegedly confirming the child's illness may be false.
The police immediately began a check on this fact and established that the owner of the fake profile is a 26-year-old resident of one of the villages of the Novgorod-Seversky district. The man created an account under a female name and made up a story about a sick child.
In addition, police officers found out that the defendant created another account, where on behalf of “soldier Vitaly” he collected money for military ammunition, equipment and cars for his brothers. Vitaliy did not publish any reports on the funds spent for the purpose.
The investigators informed the defendant about the suspicion of 14 facts of committing crimes under parts 3, 4 and 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud committed through illegal transactions using electronic computer technology, as well as fraud committed on a particularly large scale), which is punishable freedom for a term of five to twelve years.
The court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
