On July 21, during a meeting of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with representatives of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, an agreement was reached on cooperation in conducting a study of the impact of war on the situation with organized crime in Ukraine. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko and Ekaterina Pavlichenko shared with UN representatives an operational assessment of the risks of trafficking in human beings and transnational crime. Also, the Ukrainian side informed the partners about the projects implemented by the Ministry during the war.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Ekaterina Pavlichenko expressed the hope that this study will not only give a cut of the current situation in Ukraine, but will also result in concrete recommendations for the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Despite the fact that there is a large-scale war in the country, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to implement projects related to the creation of a security environment. Since July 1, the Center for Strategic Analysis and Forecasting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a single hotline — “112”, have been launched on the territory of Kyiv.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko told partners about the information system “War Criminal”. He said that since its launch, more than 230 thousand citizens of the Russian Federation and collaborators have been entered into its database, who have switched to the side of the enemy. This data is available to partners from the EU and the United States.

“This is done so that every Russian or collaborator understands that it will not be possible to enter the territory of Ukraine and leave unpunished. For our state, these individuals are war criminals, and for other civilized countries they are a terrorist threat,” said Leonid Tymchenko.

Harshet Virk, head of the regional program office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, thanked the Ministry of Internal Affairs for its cooperation on this issue. She assured of her support for the projects of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, especially on combating the trafficking of arms, drugs and human trafficking.

Also during the meeting, the participants agreed on expert assistance in adapting Ukrainian legislation to the norms of the European Union.
