NATO and Romania team up to train Ukrainian paramedics
NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre and Romania have signed a cooperation agreement on paramedics' training for Ukrainian rapid response services.
This training will help to increase the capacity of the Ukrainian medical system in the face of the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine — a situation that has worsened with the onset of winter and the current challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The training will take place in Romania with the assistance of the Emergency Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania.
Romania and NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre will provide the financial support needed to conduct the training and cover associated costs through the Pandemic Response Target Fund.
On October 24, a ceremony was held at NATO Headquarters on the occasion of the signing of the Agreement with the participation of the Secretary of State of the Ministry of the Interior of Romania Raed Arafat, the Permanent Representative of Romania to NATO, Ambassador Dan Neculaescu and Mr. Tim Lannan, Head of the NATO Euro-Atlantic Center for Economic Cooperation Coordination of disaster response.
The Pandemic Response Target Fund was established in 2022 to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, as part of the implementation of the Trust Fund, humanitarian support is provided to Ukraine, including the delivery of medical equipment and consumables, educational support in such areas as the training of paramedics. All this contributes to increasing the preparedness and sustainability of the national health care system of Ukraine.
