Tens of billions of dollars need to be spent on the detection and neutralization of explosive objects on the territory of Ukraine, - Yevhenii Yenin
Due to the large-scale invasion of Russia, Ukraine is one of the leaders in the world in the contamination of territories with explosive objects. This was stated on the air of the UAtogether tele-marathon by First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Yevgeny Yenin.
“In total, 174 thousand square kilometers of potentially dangerous territories remain, which is about 30% of the total area of our state. The most contaminated explosive objects are those territories that were under Russian occupation. Russian terrorists continue to shell Ukrainian cities and villages, so all this negatively affects the duration of humanitarian demining. We understand that the duration of humanitarian demining depends on the pace of hostilities,” Yevgeny Yenin said.
The First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stressed that the pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service and the explosives of the National Police are doing everything possible to promptly demine the liberated areas contaminated with explosive objects.
“We invest huge human and material resources in demining, we are partly helped by our international partners, but human lives are the most invaluable. For the third time, the government decided to increase the number of fire technicians of the State Emergency Service, and this is the process of their training, and raising wages and attracting expensive equipment for humanitarian demining. In general, we are talking about tens of billions of dollars that need to be spent on the detection and neutralization of explosive objects,” Yevgeny Yenin said.
According to him, during the humanitarian demining, about 50 pyrotechnics were killed and more than 100 were injured.
“The enemy is very insidious. The occupiers use prohibited ammunition, leave traps, for example, when an anti-tank mine is laid under an anti-tank mine, mining homes,” Yevgeny Yenin added.
