During the week, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine collected from subscribers of social networks the most common questions related to the introduction of a unified video monitoring system in Ukraine. The relevant draft law was recently submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.

One of the questions that most worried citizens was “Who will have access to CCTV cameras?”. The answer to it in the first issue of the “Ministry of Internal Affairs Podcast” was given by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko and the Deputy Head of the National Police Andriy Nevitov.

According to Leonid Tymchenko, only certain officials of the departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will have access to video surveillance cameras: “Every designated employee receives, in addition to rights, also duties. Therefore, it is responsible for obtaining access to CCTV cameras and the information obtained from them. For the incorrect use and distribution of the collected data for employees there is a responsibility: from disciplinary to criminal”.

However, many citizens now use private surveillance cameras. The collection of this particular information and its further use is not regulated or controlled by law as of today. A legislative initiative was created to normalize the video monitoring system.

At the same time, the system will be provided with all the necessary security measures so that hackers will not be able to get data from video surveillance cameras.
